“DreadHog” … After I finished guitar school in ‘03, I decided to stay in St. Louis to work at an amazing acoustic music shop called Music Folk. During my shift one day, I answered a phone call from an older gentleman who had some guitar wood that he was looking to get rid of. He explained that he’d made a couple of classical guitars in the 1980s, then lost interest in guitar making. So I went over to his house to see what he had. He was excited to meet a young luthier and sent me home with a small pile of wood. Among the pieces of wood, were the mahogany back/sides set and spruce top that I used to make DreadHog. As a tribute to my time in St. Louis and to commemorate 20 years since I graduated from Midwest Guitar Repair and Building School, I inlayed the Gateway Arch on the fretboard.
“Tom” … Tom (short for “Thick OM”) was made of Sitka spruce and East Indian Rosewood. The goal was to achieve extended bass responsive in a smaller-body guitar. I increased the depth of the sides close to the depth of a dreadnought. Success!
