“Tablecaster” … I made this guitar body out of my great-grandparents’ dining room table. They bought it from a local furniture maker while they lived in Los Angeles, CA. When they passed away in 1977, my grandparents had it shipped to Kansas City. My mom and dad took the table to when they moved to Morehead, KY where they had their first child, my brother Dave. A few years later, they moved to Houston, TX where I was born. When I was about two years old we moved to Morrisville, PA. In the early-1990s we moved to Lincoln, NE. Then in 1996 we moved to Topeka, KS where the table continued daily use in my family’s dining room. My dad got the table when my parents divorced in 2003. When my dad moved into a nursing home in 2014, the table needed a new home. By this time my brother and I both had houses full of furniture that we liked. Neither of us had a use for the rickety old table. So we decided that we should make guitars out of it. I made him a Strat, and this will be my Tele. I sandwiched a piece of maple between two pieces of the tabletop (poplar with mahogany veneer), then shaped it into a brand-new, evolved heirloom that I’ll someday pass on to my kids.
